Dos and Don’ts of Driving in Winter

Do’s and Don’t’s of Driving in Winter | Gary Wood CDJ | Aurora, MO

Winter is arguably the most hazardous time of year to be out on the road. If you’re out driving in winter, here are some tips and tricks for avoiding getting yourself into trouble when slick roads and extreme temperatures are involved.

DO…

Get a comprehensive routine check-up on your vehicle. Make sure all fluids are topped off or replaced, and have your service tech fill up your tires, too.

…Have your battery tested to make sure it’s at max capacity. Low temperatures reduce its functionality.

…Keep your gas tank half-full. You never know when you’ll need fuel for an emergency.

…Have jumper cables on hand at all times.

…Keep an emergency kit in your vehicle.

DON’T…

…Drive if you don’t have to, especially if there’s snow or ice on the ground.

…Stop. If you can, avoid stopping on hills, and perform rolling stops when possible. If your vehicle comes to a full stop on ice, it’s difficult to get rolling again.

…Take sharp or fast turns.

…Blindly trust other drivers. If you assume other drivers are competent on hazardous roads, you put yourself at risk of getting hit.

Be careful when driving in winter. If you follow this advice, you’ll be prepared for taking on most hazards during the colder months of the year. If you do need to prepare your vehicle for winter’s worst, stop by Gary Wood CDJR as soon as possible.

Four Missouri Christmas Towns to Visit this Month

Christmas Lights In Missouri

There is no denying that some places do Christmas better than others. These places go all out with decorations, festivities, and have an all-around jolly time all month long. Here are four of the best Missouri Christmas towns you should visit.

1. Springfield

Located less than an hour away from Aurora is Springfield. Each year in early December, you can celebrate the season with the Springfield Winterfest, held in the Juanita K. Hammons Hall. There is also an annual parade, Festival of Lights, and more.

2. Branson

Branson is fun all year round, but at Christmastime you can enjoy An Old Time Christmas with more than five million lights, 1,000 Christmas trees, a parade, and more.

3. Lake of the Ozarks.

Towns all around the lake pull out all the stops. Visit the Enchanted Village of Lights in Laurie, or The Shrine of St. Patrick’s Festival of Lights, or the drive-through display in Osage Beach.

4. Nevada.

Catch a glimpse of the twinkling lights at the Radio Springs Lake in Nevada, Missouri. The Lights on the Lake display runs through New Year’s Day.

Which of these Missouri Christmas towns do you plan on visiting this year? Here at Gary Wood Chrysler Dodge Jeep®, we hope everyone has a very merry Christmas.

Top 5 Tips for Hosting Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving Tips

Whether it’s your first time as host or you’ve done it dozens of times, hosting a holiday can be seriously stressful. Here are our top 5 tips for hosting Thanksgiving that will help you have a smooth, fun day and keep your relatives coming back in the future.

First of all, don’t think you have to do everything alone just because you’re hosting. Especially if it’s your first time, you need all the help you can get. Delegate tasks, and let friends and relatives bring food so you’re not making every dish.

Plan ahead. Make a big list of everything that needs to get done before the guests arrive and list it all on a timeline so you can keep track of everything you have to do. You’ll be much less frazzled!

Get as much done as possible before the day starts. The turkey should be in the oven a overnight so it has time to cook, and make pies and other things that can be refrigerated a couple days ahead. You should also do any experimenting with new recipes long before Thanksgiving—you don’t want to make a dish you don’t know on the day of the dinner and have it turn out bad.

Another smart way to manage your time is to get all the non-food prep out of the way in the days leading up to Thanksgiving, like setting the table and putting up decorations. These don’t have an expiration date.

Finally, make sure you relax. Thanksgiving is about food, family, and fun, and you’re not enjoying any of those if you’re stressed. Ultimately, it’s okay if things don’t go perfectly—just enjoy one of the few days of the year the whole family gets together. The Gary Wood CDJ team wishes you a happy Thanksgiving.
